Average weekly spending online in December 2013 was £675.4 million. There was an increase of 11.8% compared with December 2012. ONS has noted that people of pension age have increased their online shopping activities. Some 40% of those aged 65 and over bought online in 2014. Online sales increased by 12.0% in January 2015 compared with January 2014. Online retail sales are predicted to reach £52.25bn in the UK this year, a 16.2% increase on 2014 when the total stood at £44.97bn.
